Las Vegas
Las Vegas Nevada is the most populous city in the state of Nevada, the county seat of Clark County, and a major resort destination for gambling, shopping, fine dining, and entertainment. It is also a large retirement and family-oriented city.
The Strip
As the name suggests, the Strip is home to the city’s main hotels and casinos. However, there is much more to this sprawling urban core than its bright lights. In fact, many of its neighbourhoods and churches, along with its shopping centres and strip malls, are also quite appealing to visitors.
The city is home to the Las Vegas Convention Center, which attracts trade shows and other events. It is the largest such facility in the country.
Downtown
The heart of the city’s historic core is within a wide, flat valley that once housed marshes and freshwater springs. But by the time European settlers arrived in 1855, the land was mostly barren. Among the first permanent structures was Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort, still standing today, just a mile from Fremont Street.
This fort was built by the Mormons, who wanted to raise a town from the desert, and it has since become a museum. The fort is a National Register of Historic Places site and protected by its status as a state park.
You’ll find it a short walk from the city’s main attractions, including the Bellagio, Caesars Palace, and the Mirage. You can also take in the views from the High Roller, a 550-foot observation wheel, or go flying on the LINQ Zipline.
Restaurants
There are plenty of fantastic restaurants in this exciting city, from Japanese to Filipino and everything in between. But if you’re looking for something a little different, consider Beauty & Essex, where you can find a speakeasy-like setting and a secret door leading to the actual eatery.
It might seem a bit creepy at first, but once you’ve eaten your way through this funky spot, it won’t be long before you’re feeling like a star. It’s a great spot to get some people-watching, and its fusion cuisine is definitely worth a trip.
Visiting Madame Tussauds
You may have seen a wax museum at one point in your life, but you’ll probably never see the kind of wax figures that can be found at this top-tier attraction. They have wax replicas of actors, musicians, politicians and more.
If you’re lucky, you’ll even get to see a celebrity. Just make sure to book your tickets early because they sell out quickly!
For a more affordable alternative, head to one of the city’s numerous museums. The Nevada Museum of Art, for example, features exhibits that will enlighten and entertain.
Another good option is the History Museum, which houses exhibits that highlight the city’s rich cultural heritage. Its collection includes a wide range of items, from Native American artifacts to old railroad trestles and mining tools.
