Las Vegas Nevada, also known as Sin City, is one of America’s most popular travel destinations. It is famous for its casinos, nightlife and upscale hotels. But there is so much more to do and see in this exciting city.
Museums and Art: The town’s glitzy past comes alive at the 20,000-square-foot Nevada State Museum-Las Vegas, which tells the story of the city’s glory days in a variety of exhibits. From the “Showgirl Wall” to the Atomic Age, there’s something for everyone at this Vegas institution that’s as much fun as it is educational.
Googie: There’s a lot to love about the ’60s-inspired Neon Museum, which rescues vintage Vegas neon signs and reimagines them in an out-of-this-world, light-and-sound show that can be experienced any time of day or night. Or head to the Mob Museum, which reveals both sides of the city’s notorious battle between organized crime and law enforcement in an extensive collection of exhibits.
Family: The city’s many parks and recreational opportunities make it an excellent place to spend a day or weekend with the kids. For outdoor adventure, take a trip to nearby Valley of Fire State Park or Hoover Dam and then explore the charming Mojave Desert towns that dot the landscape.
Casinos and Hotels: The Las Vegas Strip is a must-visit attraction, but downtown Las Vegas has a lively cultural scene as well. Its Fremont Street Experience is a six-block pedestrian-only thoroughfare that offers classic casinos, bars, cheap eats and live music. The district also includes the Viva Vision light canopy that lights up the city with dazzling shows.
Food: There’s no shortage of delicious restaurants in the city. You can find world-class cuisine at every corner, with top chefs bringing their talents to Vegas. There are also plenty of local restaurants serving up classic favorites, from the best steakhouses to burger joints that have become household names in the U.S.
Gambling: The world-famous Las Vegas Strip is home to hundreds of casinos, but there are plenty of other venues to try your luck at. The casinos offer a wide range of games, including slots, table games, and sports betting.
Weather: Temperatures in the city are moderate year-round, with April and May seeing the warmest temperatures. The rest of the year is milder, with average lows in the 50s and highs in the 80s.
Education: There are plenty of colleges and universities in the region. The College of Southern Nevada, the University of Nevada-Las Vegas and the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV are some of the top higher learning institutions in the area.
Transportation: The city’s bus system, the Deuce, provides 24-hour transit service to most parts of the Strip. You can purchase tickets on the rideRTC app or at ticket vending machines.
Taxis and Car Service: Although it is easy to hail a taxi or rent a car, the city’s traffic conditions mean that it’s better to schedule your rides ahead of time.
